Two Months Old

Sallie Cate is 2 months old! She is getting so big and getting more expressive every day! She is a very happy baby and smiles a lot. She has also started "talking" this month, and I love to sit and imitate her little noises back to her. It is the sweetest sound!

She is back to sleeping great, thank goodness! Right after I posted her 6 week update talking about her sleeping issues, she got back on track to just waking up once a night to eat. She still eats anywhere from 2-3 hours during the day, so her feeding times vary, but starting around 4pm she pretty much sticks to the same schedule every day: 4pm, 6pm, 8-8:30pm, 2-3am, 6am. I have made it a rule that I don't feed her before 2:00 if she wakes up {which may have only happened 1-2 times anyway} because she has even made it until 4:00am a couple of times, so I just give her her paci and she goes back to sleep. Same with 6:00. If she wakes up at 5:30 I give her her paci and don't feed her until 6 or after. I am not trying to be a stickler, but she rarely wakes up before those times and I don't want her to regress and get used to eating frequently during the night since I know she can last and her weight is good. 

She usually has a hard time going back to bed after her 6/7am feeding, so I usually bring her in bed with me and we go back to sleep.{Well, if Curran is home that day we don't go back to sleep b/c she is usally up by then.} I love those cuddle times!

She now prefers to be held upright on my shoulder as opposed to lying down in my arms. I love feeling that soft, sweet-smelling head nestled against my cheek. :)

I hate to jinx it, but the last 4 nights she has been SO easy to put to bed. The easiest since she was born. John has given her her bottle, and then I go in and swaddle her and just put her in bed awake. I think I have gone back in once each night to put her paci back in {tonight it was several times}. Usually it is a major ordeal with a great deal of fussing/screaming from her, and I usually have to walk up and down the street or swing on the porch to get her to sleep before I put her in bed. I'm sure it won't last but I am super thankful for it!

We are in a pretty good routine of eat-"play"-sleep. That did not work well for C {she was more play-eat-sleep}, but SC seems to do well with that schedule. She still sleeps a lot more than C did and doesn't have super long periods of awake time. Her awake time is usually just me holding her in my lap and talking to her, lying on the activity mat, short amounts of time in the bouncy, running errands or going outside to swing on the porch.

Since Curran calls her Sallie Cake, she now has some new nicknames: Sallie Cakers or just simply Cakers. The other day Curran said, "What's her name?" And I said Sallie Cate, and she said, "No, just Cake. The Cakers!" :)

She likes lying on her activity mat for short periods of time, and smiles at herself in the mirror on it. We don't really do tummy time. Call me a slacker, but she hates it and bobs her head so much that she smacks her face on the ground, which obviously hurts and makes her upset. She holds her head up pretty well, so I don't stress too much about not doing tummy time. C hated it and didn't do it much either. 

She is an efficient nurser, but until the other day I was kind of worried because she doesn't nurse for very long at all. But I had a lactation consult and they assured me she was getting enough and not to go by the clock or worry about how long she was nursing. They said second babies are notoriously efficient eaters. They weighed her pre and post nursing and she took 4.4 oz, but it was what I would consider a good nursing session and not typical of ours at home. But I guess I won't over think it. She is still getting a bottle at night to get her used to it before I go back to work, and she does well with them.

She is filling out and looking less and less like a newborn. We haven't had her two month checkup yet, but at the lactation consult she weighed just under 11 lbs- so much smaller than C at 2 months {12 lbs 2 oz}.

She likes to be on the go {ok, I like to be on the go}, so I run a lot of errands on the days it's just me and her when Curran is at school. We met John for lunch the other, and it was enjoyable {after a stressful miscommunication that had me driving back and forth across down before we finally arrived at the same restaurant} until SC had the blow out of all blow outs. After C's first public one, I learned my lesson and always travel with an extra set of clothes. What I needed in this instance, however, was an extra car seat. It was so bad that it had dripped down in the hole where her buckle attaches and had formed a nice puddle underneath the chair her car seat was sitting in {thank goodness we had eaten outside}. It took both John and I about 15 minutes to get her cleaned up and get the car seat suitable enough for the ride home. This is TMI but Sister only 'goes' about every two days, so when she does, it's an event!
