Summer Night in the ATL

The day after Curran's birthday party, we headed to Atlanta {or as Sallie calls is, "Aunt Lana"} for the night. July was such a tough month for our family, and I really just wanted to get out of town and enjoy some time with just the four of us away from the distractions of home. We went to Atlanta the same weekend last year, and it was the first time we had ever been away with just our little family, and we realized how much we needed that! Last year's trip was for Curran's birthday; this year we didn't have any big plans, which was kind of nice!

On Friday we drove straight to Chamblee where we had lunch at a yummy pizzeria, per a friend's recommendation.

Afterwards we walked across the street and got ice cream at the Frosty Caboose! It was a cute little area!

Then we made a pit stop at Tower Liquor {for John- he has to whenever we go to ATL :) }, and then headed to IKEA {for me, obvs}. Every time I've been to IKEA has been on a Saturday and it has never been bad, but I guess going on a Saturday right before kids are going back to college is not a good idea. You could also eat in the cafe for free that day too. Not sure if that impacted it or if they do that every Saturday, but it was SO crowded, and I was scared we were going to lose one of the girls. We made it through in record time and grabbed the few things that were on my list {and maybe a few that weren't, because what's a trip to IKEA without impulse purchases? It's like Target. It is impossible to make it out of there without straying from your list.}

Then we headed to the hotel to check in, and we walked to dinner at BrickTop's. A few people had recommended that to us, and we were disappointed. It was mediocre at best. After dinner we headed back to the hotel to let the girls swim!

The big pool was too cold and John and I weren't thrilled about getting in {although John did for a while}, so Curran helped SC swim, and it was really the sweetest thing.

They had the best time, and made friends with everyone in there. They loved the hot tub {don't get my germaphobe self started because truthfully I loved it too!}, and swam their little hearts out. They stayed up late that night watching TV in the room. Those kids be lovin them a hotel and were hard to calm down!

We ended up just eating breakfast at the hotel because we had planned on letting them swim again, but ended up deciding against it. We checked out and just drove around Buckhead looking at cute houses, and then headed towards Midtown. We were going to see the Sound of Music singalong at the Fox Theater, and since we got there a little early, we drove around the Georgia Tech campus, and then went to lunch at the Livingston across the street from The Fox.

The show was lots of fun!! It was laid back and fairly rowdy, but SC still only made it two hours in. John took her to the bar next door to have some french fries and wait out the rest of the show, while Curran and I finished singing our little hearts out. :)

 After it was over, we headed straight back to Bham {after I lost the argument about stopping at The Varsity to eat on our way out of town.} It was a quick trip but SO much fun! The girls were so very good, and it made us very excited for our next weekend getaway.
