Disney Day 1: Travel Day and Downtown Disney

Our flight left at 7:00am, so it was an early morning at our house. Thankfully the girls were pretty cooperative, and were excited to get to the airport.

We got to Orlando at 9:30 Eastern time, and we headed right for the Magical Shuttle. I was so impressed with how smoothly it all ran. We scanned our magic bands at a few check points, and there were lots of people to direct us where to go. {If you are staying at a Disney property, this shuttle will take you to your resort and you don't even have to stop at baggage claim. They will collect your bags for you and deliver them right to your room. The bags take at least 3 hours to be delivered, so pack anything you might during that time in your carry on. Prior to leaving, the Magical Shuttle sends you the paperwork and your baggage claim tags, so you put those on before you even check in at the airport.} Our bus stopped at 4 resorts, and ours was the 3rd stop. The ride was not bad at all- they played a Disney promotional video the whole time and the girls loved watching that. :)

I think they were most excited about riding on a bus with no car seats. :)

We made it!

Once we got to our hotel {We stayed at Port Orleans- Riverside and loved it! I'll write more about it in a later post.}, we checked in, and they went over and the dining plan, how/when to use our magic bands, gave us maps, etc. Our room wasn't quite ready because normal check in time is 3:00pm, but they will send you a text letting you know when it's ready. Our text never actually came through but it didn't matter because we went to Downtown Disney, and the room was ready when we got back {much earlier than 3pm}.

We took the riverboat from our resort to Downtown Disney {not part of the actual parks- just has shops and restaurants} and ate lunch at Earl of Sandwich.

We just walked around and then took the boat back to our resort and went to our room to unpack.

Then we headed to the pool for a while. It was slightly chilly outside of the pool, but the water was heated and the girls had fun!

When were done swimming, we fed the girls a snack and let them watch a little TV. Thankfully SC fell asleep in the stroller {mid snack!}.

Then we got cleaned up and headed to the Polynesian Resort to eat at 'Ohana. We had to wait a while for our table to be ready despite our 7:30pm reservations {that seemed to be pretty common at a lot of places we ate}.  The food, which was all served family style, was good and the entertainment kept the girls occupied. It's a Hawaiian-themed restaurant, so a lady was playing the ukelele and the kids could dance and do a little hula type thing.

C was practically falling asleep standing up. :)

Our plan was to watch the Magic Kingdom's fireworks at 9:00pm from the beach of the Polynesian, but the girls had been up since before 5am and C hadn't napped, so she was melting. We went ahead and left to catch the bus, but we actually got a pretty good view of the fireworks while waiting on our bus.

This was seconds before she was out! SC was wired and had a hard time settling down, but thankfully everyone got a pretty decent night's sleep because we had early breakfast reservations the next day.
